Dangers of Cheerleading

Cheerleading is not what it used to be. It is far more competitive and dangerous. Many cheerleaders have become paralized, broken a bone, or even died. According to Dr. Harris' research on cheerleading injuries, emergency room visits have increased five-fold over the past 20 years. In 2001, there were 25,000 hospital visits for cheerleading injuries to the ankle, shoulder, head and neck. Cheerleading doesn't get the support other sports get in terms of access to an athletic trainer and appropriate facilities to practice on like soft mats instead of the last empty space in the gym or hallway.

Wow until you posted this blog I really never took cheerleading as a serious sport. I never knew how many injuries and how much athleticism you need. Be careful Sarah!

I think this was a very interesting blog. Cheerleading is such a cute SPORT but people sometimes forget the dangers of it. Being paralyzed is not something people want done over any SPORT. Make sure that if you are a cheerleader you be careful! :)

I never realized how many injuries are due to cheerleading. Although i am on the cheerleading team i have not yet experienced a serious injury. You really have to be focused and concentrated to do cheerleading which makes it a hard sport.
